CPPS is the most common form of prostatitis and there is no bacteria in the urine, this condition is also sometimes called ‘chronic (long-lasting) prostatitis’.
The condition causes constant and persistent pain in the area around the prostate gland. Non-bacterial CPPS is diagnosed when a man has symptoms for at least 3 months.
Although this condition refers to the prostate, doctors are unsure if the prostate is the root of the problem. The exact causes of this condition are unknown, but it is not caused by an infection.
It is thought that in some men there may be inflammation in the area without a specific cause, in others, the pain may be coming from the muscles or nerves in the region. CPPS is commonly described as a constant ache or discomfort around the penis, anus or lower back.
