If conservative treatment is not successful please contact us for an appointment with Laura.
Surgery for ingrowing toenails is usually performed under local anaesthetic. The edge of your toenail will be cut away giving it a straighter edge. If your nail becomes infected you may need to take a course of antibiotics.
In some cases your entire nail may need to be removed. You will have an indented space on your toe where the nail was.
After your nail is removed we will wrap your toe in a large dressing to control any bleeding and prevent infection. Make sure to rest and keep your foot elevated for the first few days after your surgery.
Wear sandals or soft shoes to keep the pressure off your toe. You should be able to remove the dressing after 2-3 days.
